Techie Brekky November 2008

Harbour IT's November Techie Brekky was a joint session hosted by IBM and APC on green server environments and cooling.

Attendees benefitted from hearing about:
  • How the overall efficiency of IT environments can be greatly improved
  • The key to providing IT Infrastructure with the cooling reliability and availability levels required
  • How to reduce the energy consumption from your IT environment with APC and IBM
  • How to achieve maximum cooling and minimal floor space
  • Scalable solutions including air distribution/fans, portables, and precision cooling systems
  • Tailored solutions for environments of all sizes.
In today's high density IT environment, the landscape is ever-changing and unpredictable. Energy costs currently represent about 10% of annual IT budgets. This is expected to increase to 50% in the next five years. Not surprisingly therefore, a Gartner survey recently revealed that 70% of CIOs consider power and/or cooling issues as the single largest problem facing their data centres.

VMware Infrastructure 3: the Next Generation in Virtualization

Harbour IT Techie Brekkys are free seminars which are run in the offices of Harbour IT nationally. Sessions are designed to keep you updated on the latest technology and movements in the market.

VMware hosted the first Techie Brekky of 2008 with great results for those who attended. The seminar covered the amazing financial and technological benefits of adding VMware into a business's infrastructure.

With virtualisation, you can spend less on IT and put more on your bottom line. It's as simple as that!

The session covered the ability to:
  • Dynamically provision, migrate and manage computing capacity across resource pools to changing business requirements.
  • Provide high service availability by automatically restarting virtual machines on live production servers in the event of server failure.
  • Simplify drag-and-drop management capabilities with topology maps and centralized configuration.
Attendees heard cases from VMware infrastructure users that evidenced exactly how savings are achieved and why 100% of the Fortune 100 companies use VMware to go beyond the boundaries of traditional IT infrastructure, and significantly lower their costs.
